Using Your Godly Imagination

Using Your Godly Imagination

Ephesians 3:20 reads,
"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine."

Lack of faith is a failure of the imagination. It is also the inability or unwillingness to entertain our thoughts about God. If we have the fullness of God, we should be able to walk in His strength and have no doubt that we can do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us—Ephesians 3:19-20 ESV. We need to know who we are in Christ to walk in knowing we can do great things. When we know who we are, we can walk in His authority.

This is more than knowledge; it’s a prayer for spiritual strength.

As Christians, we walk by the Spirit and not the flesh, enabling us to do all things in Christ Jesus. So, if I can do immeasurably more and do all things through Christ who strengthens me, why is there so much doubt in Christian lives? Especially regarding the calling God has given you.

This can mean two things:

  • You don’t trust God

  • You believe the lies more than God

And when we walk in doubt, it limits how we influence the world around us.

To impact our culture, we can't criticise or copy anyone else. Criticising people allows the devil to take hold of your thoughts and believe lies. Copying someone else's work does not allow you to trust God with your giftings.

I think it is also important that we don’t rely on AI; it has its purpose, not to write Christian content entirely. That’s when you put God aside and allow a computer to write for you, not relying on the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

So, how do we engage our God given imagination like others before us, like C.S. Lewis?

The question to ask is, how do we use our imagination like C.S. Lewis? He used logic, the salvation story, which was embedded in the creative story of Narnia. We can't be another Lewis; we need to reinvent storytelling from our God-given imagination.

The church should be the most creative people in the world. With the mind of Christ and access to God's unlimited creativity, the church should be the most creative people in the world. Instead, we copy the world. Unfortunately, non-believers cannot decipher the difference because we have brought the world into our God-given creative minds.

Another great example of creative minds is The House of David and The Chosen. They have adapted Scripture for the screen. Filling in the blanks requires great imagination and prayerful thought. They remind me that creativity requires trust.

But I’ll be honest, when I doubt myself, I stop writing. Like yesterday.

I had an overwhelming feeling of doubt and insecurity. I didn’t trust God, I didn’t lay it at His feet, and I believed the lies that I fed myself. When this happens, I am not faithful to the creativity and imagination God has given me.

There must be a time when you believe that the gift God has given you will go far beyond what you can imagine. This will only happen when we are faithful, take a step of faith, walk in the fullness of God, and do not compromise the gospel.

As we do this, God will honour us with our talent.
